Karting Championship | Round Two Race Report

34 drivers arrived to do battle in round 2 of the Open Karting Championship. Several new drivers were looking to maximise points after missing round 1 including former lap record holder Jack Norman.

After another random group draw the first set of drivers filtered onto the circuit for qualifying. Jack Norman showed why he is the one of the quickest drivers around the track consistently hitting 72 second lap time to cement his position as quickest with a final best time of 72.190. Adam Blair continued his form qualifying 2nd with a 73.565 and newcomer Alfredas Gricius completing the top 3 with a best of 73.594.

Onto race 1 and Jack shot through the pack into 7th at the end of lap 1 but he has a penalty looming for a jump start. He made the most his advantage taking the victory by over 20 seconds from championship leader Reece Yusuf and Adam Blair showing how consistent he is finishing 3rd.

Their 2nd race was always looking to be a hard affair and this time it was another of the Norman family this time Steve taking the victory by 11 seconds from Adam Blair in 2nd meaning he is yet to finish off the podium in 6 races. Jack Norman made sure of a good nights work coming home in 3rd in his second race.
The second group featured 2 top drivers in Daryl Palmer and Has Khalid both former lap record holders at the circuit too. Has made his intentions known qualifying on pole a full second ahead of Daryl. Has getting a 72.130 and Daryl lapping in 73.100. Elia Evagora finished 3rd with a best of 73.332.

Has Khalid made the most of early race clash between Daryl and David Stephens which hindered both their progress. As a result Has took an unchallenged victory followed in by Anthony Ballanger 8 seconds behind and Elia Evagora finishing in 3rd once again a further 4 seconds back.

The final race of the evening looked set as a Daryl Palmer benefit and so it was with him streaking away to a 28 second win. Battles raged throughout the field and Has once again cleared the traffic to finish 2nd and Manj Patti followed his round 1 promise with another excellent 3rd place.

So come the end of round the championship already hotting up with Adam Blair currently top with 55 points, Has Khalid is 2nd with 51 points but he did receive 4 points worth of penalties which I’m sure he is ruling now. Finally Daryl Palmer sits 3rd on 42 points.

Round 3 commences at 7:30 Monday 3rd October and its joker time as drivers can now use their joker round to score double point.
