Karting Championship | Round Four Race Report
Another solid entry of 21 drivers gathered for the 4th round of the championship. 3 new drivers came to make up some points and encouragingly will all be returning again.
As previously the drivers were split into smaller groups for qualifying to ensure some quick laps were possible. The first group headed onto the circuit and new driver Alex Bridger quickly placed himself in provisional pole position with early fast laps.
Has Khalid was tracking him hard in 2nd place but ultimately that’s how the lap times finished with Alex on a 73.721 and Has on a 74.116 and Joao Regis closely in 3rd with a 74.295.
The 2nd set of drivers then set off looking to improve on the previous lap times. Daryl Palmer quickly moved away from the traffic and was never to be headed with a final lap time of 71.906 putting him firmly as quickest in qualifying. Adam Blair continued with a 2nd on a 72.798 and David Stephens showed encouraging pace with his personal best lap time of 73.269 in 3rd.
The drivers were then combined for a very full grid for their first race. Hugo Marques and Glenn Waterman set the early pace but Glenn quickly faded as the faster drivers made inroads on the pack. Hugo was holding his own against Stanislaw Malinowski and Zsolt Endredy who were climbing all over his rear bumper.
Ultimately they did slice their way through but Hugo held on well for a 3rd place finish. Daryl Palmer was the best of the championship contenders in 7th with Adam Blair in 9th and Has Khalid unfortunately a non-finisher.
Race 2 saw a slightly depleted field of 16 drivers with the luckless Has on pole after his earlier non finish. He spread his lead early on but Adam Blair was making short work of the field and took the lead on lap 8. His lead was only to be extended finishing 13 seconds up and in the process recording the new lap record of 70.936! Has drove splendidly to hold on to 2nd from fast charger James Cripps who set his personal best lap 71.587.
Once the points were totted up Adam still holds top spot from Has Khalid 12 points behind and Anthony Ballanger closely trailing in 3rd.
